ARTICLE FIVE
BELIEFS
The bible. All scriptures are given by inspiration of God, and are profitable for doctrine, for reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, and thoroughly furnished unto all good work.
The one baptism. (as recorded in Acts 2:4, 10:44-48, 19:1-16) is evidenced by the speaking of other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.
The new birth. (being born again) includes repentance, water baptism in Jesus name, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost, evidenced by the speaking of other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.
Repentance for the remission of sins. The grounds upon which God will accept a sinner is repentance for the heart (Psalms 51:17). A broken and a contrite heart thou will not despise. John preached that repentance and remission of sins, should be preached in Jesus name, beginning at Jerusalem (Luke 24:47) Peter fulfilled this command on the day of Pentecost.
The Lord's Supper. Blessing the bread and wine and partaking thereof was continued by the church after the Day of Pentecost, (Genesis 14:18)
Feet Washing. Jesus gave us an example that we should do even as he had done. He said that we ought to wash on another's feet. (St. John 3:4-17)
Divine healing. The Lord is our healer, (Exodus 15:26, Psalms 30: 2,3) by his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4, Matthew 8:14-17, St. John 14:12, Mark 16:18, James 4:14)
The Godhead. We fully believe the mystery of the Godhead. We believe that Jesus was both human and divine. (Colossians 1:19; 2:9). There is God, Eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and self-sufficient, who has manifested Himself as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Jesus. Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, God incarnated and is called the son of God in human relationship.
Man's Fall and Redemption. Man was created in the image of God but by the exercising of his own will, he transgressed the will of God and fall into the sin. Man's only hope of redemption is through Jesus Christ, the son of God.
Confession. The recognition and the acknowledgment of sins before god, which is brought about by Godly sorrow and repentance granted by God to the honest and sincere soul. (II. Corinthians 7-10)
The Name of Jesus. There is salvation in none other name (Acts 4:12) whereby we must be saved. The apostles always administered baptism in his name from the Day of Pentecost forward. It can be seen that there is a single name; Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. If the name is one, then the person is one,
Jesus, he is Father in his relationship to this creation. He is son in his redemptive role, He is Holy Ghost in his sanctifying and preserving the indwelt believer, but his name is one; Jesus.
St. Paul believed that baptism should be administered in the name of the one who was crucified for us. (I Corinthians 1-13) To be baptized means immersion; to be dipped or dyed.
Translation of Saints. The time draweth near for the coming of the Lord to make a change in the present order of things, and at that time all the dead in Christ shall rise from their graves and we that are alive and living righteous before God shall be translated or caught up to meeteth the Lord in the air. (Matt. 26:36,42; Luke17:20,37; I Cor.15:51,54;Phil.3:20-21;IThessalonians 4:13, 17)
The Millennium. We believe that the distress upon the world is the beginning of sorrow and will become intense and thee shall be trouble such as never before. (Matt. 24:3-8); (Daniel 12:l) The period of tribulation will be followed by the dawn of a better day on earth, and for one thousand years there shall be peace on earth, and for one thousand years there shall be peace on earth and good will toward men. (Rev. 20:1-5; Isaiah 65:17-25; Matt 5:5; Daniel 7:27, Micah 4:1,2; Habakkuk 2:14)
Final Judgment. When the thousand years are finished there shall be a resurrection of the dead who shall be summoned before the Great White Throne of their final judgment. All whose names are not found written in the Lamb's Book of Life shall be cast into the Lake of fire, burning with brimstone, which God has prepared for the devil and his angels. Satan being cast in first. (Rev. 20:7-15; Matt. 24:41-46; Rev. 21;8)
Holy Sanctified Life. We believe in order to escape judgment of God and to have hope of enjoying the glory of life eternal, one must be thoroughly saved from his sins, holy and sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost. (Hebrews 12:14; I Peter 1:15-17) We believe that the dress and adornments of saints should be temperate, in all modesty and not extreme.
MALTREATMENT
In times of persecution, or ill-treatment at the hands of the enemy, we should not avenge ourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay saith the Lord." (Romans 12:19) Neither shall we take up any weapon of destruction to slay another, whether in our own defense or in the defense of others for it is written, "do violence to no man." (See Luke 3:14; Matthew 26:52; John 18:36; 15:18, 19 We should rather suffer than do wrong.
CIVIL GOVERNMENT
All civil magistrates are ordained of God for peace, safety, and the welfare of all people (Romans 13:1-10), therefore it is our duty to be in obedience to all requirements of the laws that are not contrary to the word of God, and that do not force one to violate the sixth commandment bearing arms. It is our duty to honor them, pay tribute, or such taxation as may be required without murmuring (Matthew 17:24-27, 22:17-21), and show respect to them in all lawful requirements of the civil government.
SECRET SOCIETIES,ETC.
According to the word of God we firmly believe and hold that the people of God should have no connection whatsoever with secret societies or any other organization of body wherein is a fellowship of unbelievers bound by an oath. (James 5:,7; II Corinthians 6:14, 18) We are exhorted by the word of God to be content with such things as we have and be content with wages;"(I Timothy 6:8; Hebrews 13:5; Luke 3:14)
SEXUAL IMMORALITY
The Holy Scriptures give four reasons for the sexual act between a husband and wife:
- To replenish the earth(Genesis 1:28)
- As a means of satisfying the sexual need in man therefore avoiding fornication.
- As a demonstration of the love the husband and wife have for each other. The love (agape) is to elevate marriage to such an exalted position that it becomes an earthly demonstration of the love of Christ for the church. (Ephesians 5:21,22).
- It is not by accident the scripture described the sexual union of Adam and Eve thusly; and Adam knew his wife and she conceived. (Gen. 4:1) "Adam knew his wife again and she bare a son."(Gen. 4:25)
It is through the sexual union that husband and wife know each other in a dimension that is not to be shared by any other human being. When the sexual act is engaged in by husband and wife within the guidelines of the word of God, as noted above, it will be the highest degree of expression and purpose of earthly love and will not be deg
LESSON IX: TITHING AND OFFERING
What is the tithe or tithing? Abraham gave Melchizedek tithes of all he had (Gen. 14:20) The tithe means the tenth part. The tithe is a mechanism that teaches us the God- given principle of giving. By developing a disciplined tithing lifestyle, the principle of giving, be it offerings, alms, etc., will have a base to build from. The fact that Abraham gave tithes before the law.
Jacob declared hat all that God will give me, "I will give him a tenth, "tithe'. " Again,
It is important to note that tithe was instituted by man in response to the blessing of
theLord. Tithing is worship unto God.
Once the law begun being instituted, it was mandated that the tithe be consecrated to
God. (Lev. 27:30-33) The tithe was given as unto the Lord but to the service of God
It served of specific cause. (Num, 16:24) We see here that the tithe unto the Lord was
given as an inheritance to the Levites, God's representatives on the earth. The Levites
were the elders, shepherds and/ or pastors of Israel, and they were types and shadows
prebyterian in the body of Christ today. Num 18:26 states the Levites were to give
tithe of their tithes in the forms of a heave offering and the purpose support the High
Priest Aaron or the overall pastor. If this is a shadow of the church, then it is feasible
To think that not only is the pastor of a local church entitled to full-time support but if
It is financially possible, and if there are elders in shepherding positions, or assistant
Pastors, youth pastors, etc., these too could be inheritors of the blessing of the tithe.
Mal 3:18 states that when we refuse to tithe and give offerings, we in turn are
Robbing God. As a result of robbing God, believers in the ordinances of water
baptism , communion and fool washing. Church membership offers us a covering for
weddings and funerals. Church membership is God's idea and we believe in
membership to the local church.
Satan's attack of lack and poverty go unchallenged by God, and thus, a curse that we
have been redeemed from attempts to impose its will upon us.
Mal 3:10 – Bring ye the tithes into the storehouse. What is the storehouse? Wherever
You are being fed, shepherded or cared for. The storehouse is God's house, "mine
House". That there may be meat in "mine house".
II Chron 7 – The House of Prayer
Matt – My house shall be called the House of Prayer.
When we refuse bring the tithe, we are robbing God's house of its meat. Notice, the
Phrase here is rob, not steal; to steal may involve one person taking something
Without the permission of the owner, without the owner knowing it.
To rob is to forcible take property from another. Who is big enough, strong enough,
Or powerful enough to strong-arm or rob God? The person that refuses to tithe and
Give offerings. Can you imagine, "Hey God, heal me, bless me, deliver me, comfort
Me, etc… " To lay claim on these blessing and promises of God without the
Obedience with the tithe is Robbery !!!
One hundred percent of what we have belongs to God. We are but stewards over
possessions. Even though 100% belongs to God, he requires us to give him the tenth
part and we can utilize the remaining 90%. In the tithe, we are giving God what is his
already , and in keeping the tithe back, we are robbing God of that which is his.
On the other hand, one that is obedient with the tithe God promises that the
windows of Heaven will be opened ! This is a guaranteed blessing in the financial
realm and it does guarantee that the channel for blessing is opened.
Mal 3:10 describes the six fold blessing in obedience to tithing:
- Meat to mine house. The work of the Lord will continue because of our obedience with the tithe.
- Opening of the Windows of Heaven. This describes the open channel for financial blessing.
- The pouring out of numerous financial blessings that we cannot have room enough to receive.
- I will rebuke the devourer. Through our obedience with the tithe, we loose God to
our defense in the area of finances, sickness, emotions, etc. The devourer will be rebuked as we obey!
- All nations will call you blessed! This is beyond financial blessings by faith, this
Describes manifested blessings where every nation can see that you are blrssed!
- Ye shall be a delightsome land; your homes will proper; your jobs will proper;
and ye shall live in delight! God wants you happy and your obedience with the
tithe guarantees your own happiness.
This is the six fold blessing of tithing, and it is through our obedience with the tithe that we are set up to receive from our offerings given.
II Cor 9:6 – He that sows sparingly. In other words, little out, little to receive, not little in the amount but little in faith in obedience, little in love. You shall receive based upon the motive and intent and content of your giving. Little in amount may be much to one and little to another, that's why the Scripture states (I Cor 16:2), "Upon the first day of the week, let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath propered you… " You can only give within your means to give.
Paul continues to state, "He that sows bountifully shall reap bountifully." To God not only is the amount or content important but the intent is also important.
Every man, as he hath purposed in his heart, so let him give! Not in the spirit of regret (grudgingly) or because you were coerced by need (necessity) for God loveth the cheerful giver.
And based upon your cheerful giving, God is able to make all grace abound toward you! What grace, the grace of prosperity, necessity and desire shall be given to you as a response to your giving, and you'll have all sufficiency and in all things you may abound. And he that is able to give you seed for the purpose of sowing or giving will also give you bread to eat, and he will multiply your own seed that was sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness.
In short, God promises to prosper the giver but remember tithe opens the channel for the blessing to flow through!!!
(Gal 6:2) Paul teaches us that he that has been taught the word should give unto the life of the one who has taught him. Then he tells us in the following verses that of you give unto the life of the teacher, you will reap if you faint not in your giving. He continues on to say every opportunity we should do good unto all men, especially those of the church. As in the Old Covenant we see that the main support for God's full-time ministers should come directly from the church of God through the avenue of tithes and offerings.
We believe in the biblical practice of tithing and offering.
